Drain Milling Services
Drain milling is often used when a blockage isn't caused by ordinary debris. Sometimes, there is concrete inside the pipe, hardened scale, grout, displaced liner material, or another solid obstruction. Our engineers use specialist milling equipment to carefully remove these obstructions and restore the internal diameter of the pipe, avoiding unnecessary excavation.

Our Service
Drain Milling
Most people call us because their drain isn’t working properly. What they don’t always realise is that the problem isn’t necessarily a blockage in the usual sense.
We’ve inspected drains where builders’ materials have entered the pipe during construction work. We’ve found old scale build-up reducing the size of the pipe by half. We’ve even come across drains partially blocked by failed repairs carried out years earlier.
In situations like these, drain milling can often provide a practical solution.
Investigating The Drain: Before any milling work begins, we need to understand exactly what’s inside the pipe. A CCTV survey allows us to see the obstruction and determine whether milling is the most suitable approach.
Assessing The Condition Of The Pipe: Not every drain is suitable for milling. We check the condition of the pipework first to make sure the process can be carried out safely without causing damage.
Removing Internal Obstructions: Using specialist rotating equipment, we carefully remove material that’s restricting the flow inside the drain. This might include concrete deposits, mortar, scale, protruding connections, or other solid obstructions.
Restoring Pipe Capacity: As material is removed, the pipe gradually returns closer to its original internal size. This allows wastewater to flow more freely and helps improve the overall performance of the drainage system.
Checking The Results Once the milling work has been completed, we inspect the drain again to confirm the obstruction has been removed and that the pipe is flowing as it should.
Recommending Any Further Work Occasionally, milling reveals other issues hidden behind the obstruction. If we find anything that requires attention, we’ll explain what we’ve seen and discuss the available options.

Why Choose Us
Drain milling isn’t something every drainage company carries out regularly. It requires the right equipment, careful planning, and a good understanding of what’s happening inside the pipe.
Experience With Complex Drain Problems
We've worked on drainage systems affected by all kinds of unusual obstructions. Some jobs are straightforward, while others require a more specialist approach.
We Investigate Before We Act
Rather than assuming what's causing the issue, we prefer to inspect the drain first. That way we can recommend a solution based on evidence rather than guesswork.
Specialist Equipment
Certain obstructions simply won't shift using conventional drain cleaning methods. Our milling equipment allows us to tackle problems that would otherwise be difficult to remove.
Less Disruption Where Possible
In many situations, drain milling can help avoid more invasive repair work. If an obstruction can be removed from within the pipe, there may be no need for excavation.
Attention To Detail
The job isn't finished just because the blockage has gone. We check the drain afterwards to make sure the pipe is clear and functioning properly.
Straightforward Advice
We'll explain what we've found, what can be done about it, and whether milling is genuinely the best option for the drain.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is drain milling used for?
Drain milling is used to remove solid obstructions from inside drainage pipes, including concrete, mortar, scale build-up, protruding connections, and other hard materials that restrict flow.
2. How is drain milling different from drain jetting?
Drain jetting uses high-pressure water to clear debris and softer blockages. Milling uses specialist cutting equipment to remove harder materials that water pressure alone may not be able to shift.
3. Can drain milling remove concrete from a pipe?
Yes. One of the most common reasons for milling is removing concrete, grout, or construction debris that has entered the drainage system.
4. Will drain milling damage the pipe?
Before any work begins, we assess the condition of the drain. When carried out correctly using suitable equipment, milling is designed to remove obstructions while protecting the surrounding pipework.
5. Do all blocked drains require milling?
No. Most blockages can be cleared using other methods. Milling is generally reserved for situations involving solid or stubborn obstructions inside the pipe.
6. Can milling be carried out without digging up the drain?
In many cases, yes. The equipment is often introduced through existing access points, allowing work to be completed internally without excavation.
